Encaustic Art

It was in Whistler B.C. when I first saw my first encaustic art piece and I fell in love instantly. It is now my first medium I like to create with when I walk into my studio. Encaustic painting dates back to 5th century BC, where it was used for portraits on cave walls in Roman and Ancient Egypt times. Encaustic paints are pre-made blends of encaustic mediums and pigments. The word encaustic is from the Greek word ‘’enkaustikos’’ which means ‘’to burn in’’. It is mixtures of wax and resins that must be heated in layers so to fuse in each application of wax.
